Grades 2-8
This residency focuses on a creative, controlled, low-risk drama technique known as tableau. Tableau helps students apply and expand their knowledge and understanding in subjects across the curriculum by asking them to take on the roles of people or objects to create living pictures. Students first learn how to strenghten the cooperation and concentration muscles required for this work. Next, using text or visual images as a springboard, students create living pictures that demonstrate their comprehension of specific facts, concepts, or big ideas. Music, writing, and even slow motion movement can be added to create extremely powerful performance pieces that also double as an assessment tool. The engaging process deepens reading comprehension, models differentiated instruction, and motivates all types of learners.
Because the strategy is so flexible, specific curriculum content for this residency is tailored to the individual classroom. Content areas such as Social Studies and Literature have the strongest connections to this strategy. Speak directly with Sean about how to customize this work to fit your goals and objectives.
